Tim Minchin is his own man;
A creative talent pushing the envelope of peoples’ thinking. We love his address to the University of Western Australia’s 2013 Arts and Science graduating class which brought to the world his 9 life lessons.
We love this video because he talks about the intersection of art and science – this is iSpruik’s world.
“Don’t make the mistake that arts and science are at odds with each other. That’s a recent, stupid and damaging idea. You don’t have to be unscientific to make beautiful art or write beautiful things. Science is not a body of knowledge nor a belief system, just a term which describes human kind’s incremental acquisition of understanding through observation. Science is awesome. Arts and sciences need to work together to improve how knowledge is communicated.”
Watch the video as Tim blends the life lessons along with a good dose of iconic Minchin humour. I think lessons 5 and 6 are my favorite.
Don’t define yourself in opposition to something. Instead, express your passion for things you love. Be pro stuff not just anti stuff.
